The Arkansas Department of Education encourages transparency through open data
Open data is the idea that information should be made available to the public for everyone to use or republish as they wish.
With that in mind, on November 9, 2016, The Arkansas Department of Education launched https://myschoolinfo.arkansas.gov/ which allows the public to search and compare public schools and districts from across the State of Arkansas.
According to Dr. Eric Saunders, Assistant Commissioner for Research and Technology, Arkansas Department of Education, “MySchoolInfo is an excellent website that provides
users with flexibility and functionality. The easy-to-use interface provides the public with a tool to explore the information on public schools across the state. Never before has the public had so much information at their fingertips that is easy to use!”
The data presented on this website is periodically updated and reflective of information submitted by schools and districts to the Arkansas Department of Education.
The Division of Research and Technology worked with Mainstream Technologies to build and deliver this open data initiative.
JD Robinson, Mainstream’s Director of Strategy and Consulting confirmed, “We are excited to be a part of the team because MySchoolInfo is an example of government transparency. Open data offers the potential to increase the public’s participation in government.
More access to government information serves us all by encouraging thoughtful and informed policy discussions with the hope, that together, we can improve the efficiency and effectiveness of government services.”
