The Mainstream Back-up Validation

As we work with clients we find that what they believe to be an effective data back-up process is anything but. It isn't that they don't have the pieces in place or that they haven't thought through their needs. A successful back-up strategy is not something that can be put into action and forgotten; it needs to be reconsidered and updated as business needs change and technology evolves.

Critical considerations of a robust back-up strategy:

  • The frequency of back-ups;
  • An understanding of what data is backed up and what is not;
  • The medium used for the back-up process;
  • Whether to utilize incremental back-ups and how often;
  • The offsite location of back-up storage;
  • The frequency of changing back-up medium to assure successful back-ups;
  • The ability to test back-up medium to assure successful back-ups;
  • An understanding of the restore process and any downtime required to complete.

Regularly our clients request that Mainstream provide an objective and thorough analysis of their back-up processes. We've found simple problems like the storage of back-up tapes onsite, to defective back-up medium, to the need for an online back-up service. If you would like to improve your confidence in your back-up processes, give us a call. Or click below and we'll get in touch with you.

Disaster Recovery Statistics

  • According to research by the University of Texas, only 6 percent of companies suffering from a catastrophic data loss survive, while 43 percent never reopen and 51 percent close within two years.
  • According to a recent NFIB National Small Business Poll, man-made disasters affect 10% of small businesses, whereas natural disasters have impacted more than 30% of all small businesses in the US. Hurricanes and tornados are by far the most destructive force causing power failure, flooding, customer loss, and the closure of many businesses.
  • According to the analyst firm IDC, about 70% of all successful attacks on computer networks were carried out by employees and insiders.
