Mainstream Technologies - 2008 Recipient of the Governor’s Work Life Balance Award

Mainstream Technologies was honored to be a 2008 Recipient of the Governor’s Work Life Balance Award. MTI received the Bronze Award in the Small Business category. Founder Mark McClelland comments, "Managing employees with respect and understanding of their life issues is the right thing to do, but it's also a smart business decision . We understand the importance of our work force's attitude and its impact on our customers." Vice President Jeff Byers adds, “We place a premium on empowering our associates to make their own right decisions regarding work/life balance. Everyone has different life challenges. We strive to provide a framework within our policies that enables our associates to find the right balance for their situation.”

As a Technology company it is often hard to balance employee life needs and still meet support commitments required by customers. President John Burgess notes, “Our industry has an inherent unfavorable bias toward Work over Life due to 24 x 7 support issues and the ever-increasing dependence of mission critical business processes on technology. Our flex-time, cross-training, and remote access policies were designed to compensate for this bias and have resulted in both higher associate retention and higher morale. Our policies are geared toward providing our associates with flexibility in how they honor their work commitments. Unexpected events happen, both in business and in personal life, and flexibility is the single most important concept in empowering our associates to honor all of their individual commitments. Our flexible work hour policy allows our associates to structure their work weeks so that important family/life events and goals can be honored within the construct of honoring work deadlines and commitments. Our goal is to grow our company by continuing to recruit, develop, and retain great people so we can continually improve the quality and scope of the solutions we provide our customers.”

In this article, John Burgess, President and Co-Founder of Mainstream Technologies, also provides his thoughts on the current state of RFID implementations:

Mainstream’s Burgess notes, “RFID continues to try to find its niche as the current cost of the technology and the current state of the technology are still barriers to making it a viable general alternative to barcode.”

Mainstream Technologies also sponsored a presentation by Intermec executive Mike Nichols on RFID at this year's Little Rock IT Summit. Here are a few comments from Mr. Nichols on how RFID is already impacting our lives, courtesy of Talk Business.
