John Burgess and Mark McClelland
John Burgess and Mark McClelland were managing supply chain management and financial IS applications, respectively for a preeminent retailer headquartered in the South. They thrived on challenges and had outgrown the corporate box they'd pushed against for a decade. When a mutual friend described a 6-month project designing a hazardous waste tracking system, John and Mark took the assignment and established Mainstream Technologies, Inc. -And never looked back.
The 6-month engagement turned into a continuing relationship. John smiles, "We went in, assaulted them with questions, and delivered a working system on-time and under budget." Mainstream Technologies has since developed a branch automation system and a purchase journal infrastructure for this enterprise.
Mainstream Technologies quickly became known for learning enough about a client's business environment to create solutions with flexible architectures. Mark: "Retail was a great discipline to start out in." John elaborates, "You've got vendors shipping in, distribution to outlets, sales and returns and margins and financial performance - hundreds of thousands of transactions a day." "We learned that thinking more on the front-end builds a better, longer-lasting business solution," adds Mark.
As Mainstream Technologies has established new working partnerships its ranks have grown. It's been able to attract talent, ingenuity, and energy. John: "For someone with the business experience to contribute right away we offer a chance to get into new situations, new industries, with new sets of problems and logistics, and to collaborate to come up with ways to solve these problems."
Mainstream Technologies' collective expertise grows year by year. Data Mining products, Vendor Tracking systems, Customer Management, Distribution Management, RTV Tracking, Electronic Vaulting, Supply-chain Tracking, Logistics, Telecom. Its professionals come from retail, consulting, data management, banking systems, communications, healthcare information and software development.
"We haven't invested two thousand man-hours to come up with a product we can dust off and force fit upon our customers," muses Mark. "We believe that by coming in with a fresh perspective and setting up a framework that's clean and resilient we can outperform packaged products." John concurs, "If I think someone's situation can be handled by something that's already out there I'll recommend it. The people we work with are in highly competitive businesses that can't afford to get bogged down by kinks and bugs."
Mainstream Technologies engineers solutions to business problems. This may be structured as Custom Applications Development, Contract Programming, or Application Service Provisioning. Mainstream Technologies can be brought in on any basis from consulting to on-site installers. We are able to leverage their muscular bandwidth capabilities in structuring electronic vaulting, records management and electronic disaster recovery. John: "Our original conception of Mainstream Technologies was that we would use proven technologies, those in the mainstream, but that we would focus our efforts on creative ways to employ those technologies." It's a mindset that serves our clients well.
Mainstream Technologies is made up of a particularly well-grounded group of business and information professionals. Collectively (and individually) we own a range of qualifications, certifications and experiences. We put this expertise to intelligent use.
Our people work as a team. Specific technical concentrations and generalist gut-level know-how and real world experience, combine to produce group insight. We're disciplined enough to ask basic questions in search of understanding. We're astute enough to consider any course of thought in search of elegant solutions. In other words: many keen minds and eyes are looking at your problems and collaborating on solving them.
